Hello! I'm new to this world and I was wondering what type of coin this one is (how is it called, if it's good or not, etc). I literally know nothing about it, just that it is from 1885, and I'm assuming it's from Great Britain. Some help would be great!! Thank you in advance :) (and sorry if this post is in the wrong category!)
This coin appears to be an imitation of a British Gold Sovereign of Queen Victoria.
The particular portrait of Queen Victoria seen on this coin was not used until 1887, which means that this coin is unfortunately a fake and may or may not contain more than a negligible amount of actual gold
Hi X2an, I believe it's 22 mm. Some people told me it was a rare edition or something like that, are you sure it's fake? Because I've asked and they told me it has a significant amount of gold (for its size, obviously)
How thick is the coin/setting? It could be two coins in one setting, which would explain the wrong date for the Jubilee obverse, or it could be that the original maker cheated his customer by shaving down two coins so there was less than the total value of gold before mounting the mismatched pieces in the bezel.
