Prime example as to why I would not buy a raw Trade dollar unless it was from one of my 3 trusted dealers.

The date position looks off on the Craigslist coin. Is this normal?

The date position and mint mark size and position varies on the Trade dollar. The date position on the Craig coin is typical for the date.

To my knowledge there is no comprehensive study on Trade dollars to document all the possible combinations of date positions and mint size and positions.

I think coinfrog asks the right question. Even if it is real, why would you want it given its extensive condition problems?

@Slider Thank you for the info. I don't collect these and this is the 1st time I have noticed such a difference in the date positioning. Learned something new today

I've seen enough fakes that I can usually spot them nowadays with a sub 1 minute inspection; I'll go back and take a deeper look.

Well, I did not try to buy this.
Thanks for all the good discussion, I certainly learned a lot about Trade dollars.
