Man, its been a couple weeks since I bought a coin. Been a couple weeks since I bought anything new. I have mountains of modern coinage to go through, but moderns pale when compaired to Morgans. So I did my routine check of e-bay, and got hooked on one auction inparticular. 1889-P, 1921-S, and the hook an 1886-O. The pictures were ok at best, but I can deal with this if the price is right. They were clear enough to get a general idea of grade. a VERY conservative VF35-XF40. I got all 3 for $78 +shipping. I guess I am hoping that the '86 can pull AU or better.

I have about a dozen '21s to attribute, tons of modern stuff to go through, halves to check for double dies, tons of stuff that needs organized, but I guess that none of that compares to getting something new in the mail in a few days.

Here is the pic, what do you think... (just make my day and don't tell me they look cleaned. )

Noob,

I would agree with XF but there's no way to tell if they have been cleaned with those photos.

You definitely have the disease. When you see something pictured on ebay that's 38.1mm in diameter, a heraldic eagle on the reverse and silver in color ... you can't help but pull the trigger!

Thats kinda what I thought, but I'm far from an expert on cleaned coins. And sometimes because a seller takes a pic that is unflattering or undecriptive you can get quite a deal. Bad pics are common with people trying to rip you off, and people that are ignorant/lazy about selling coins on ebay. As long as I'm not getting burned too bad, I'll take a gamble. And figuring that I paid $5 over XF40 price after shipping, I can't get hurt too bad.
Rest in Peace

I got that same itch the other day and went for a few hole fillers, well actually two, a 1934 peace and a silver 3 cent piece. They also had a good price on a large cent so I added one of those to the list. I have a feeling that with the total amount of "junk" mail we receive on a daily basis it is nice to have a little something to look forward to! As far as I can tell from the pics, they look to be in nice condition, so under thirty apiece, 'tain't that bad MorganNoob!!

If I see an auction with bad pics I like to check the sellers other auctions, if they are good clear pics I tend to think the bad pics have somthing to hide.

With the new rules on ebay, the seller can't retaliate so the buyer can torch a seller if they are or aren't dealing fairly. With the new rules watch the feedback closely. There are people that can't wait to burn somebody though.
