hello everyone out there. I am fairly new to coin collecting. I started out with US paper currency and have now crossed over to US coins. I was searching through this shoe box of coins that I had sitting in my closet and came across this.

at first I had no idea what it was. after posting on another forum and then doing some research I found out what it was. my question to the forum is can someone give me a grade on this coin and roughly the value. I found on coinfacts that there was only 176,330 of this minted for circulation. any info would be greaty appreciated.

Appears to be at least VF, without coin in hand but somewhere between $200-$400. Wish I had a shoebox full of those.

Was this an inherited shoe box? What else was in there?

Looks better than VF to me; I'd call it a solid AU. For a gold coin that presumably had been rattling around with other coins in a box it is surprisingly free of marks. It looks real, but you might want to check the weight if you have access to an accurate scale. Counterfeits exist of most US gold coins. A real quarter-eagle should weigh in at about 4.18 grams.

Beautiful coin, and a terrific find. Like Arthrene, I'm wondering what else was in the box?

Oh, welcome to the forum!
