Hey all- I'm going to take around 100 of my halves and bring them by my local dealer today. All very circulated Walking Liberty halves. I'm going to use the money to plug some final holes in my Jefferson nickel book, and add more Morgan dollars to my collection. I'll let you guys/gals know what the dealer gives me per coin this afternoon.

Why dont you try selling them here? You'll probably get more here, maybe on the order of $0.50-$1.00 or more per half. That would mean an extra $50-$100 in your pocket if you can hold out.

Except I just realized you have to have 50 posts I think to post a for sale item.

Seems a shame to get rid of Walkers in any condition !....but I guess if it gains you some Morgans....that's a good thing! Yeah, as CoinHunter said........You'd have better value selling them "here" or somewhere else, than you would at a Dealers shop.......A Dealer won't/can't give you what they're worth......the whole profit/loss and re-sale thing !

I was in a St Louis brick and mortar about two month ago looking at their offerings. There were lots of folks coming in selling their gold and silver. At the time they were offering $10 face for silver. A guy standing next to me had a large ziplock bag of Morgans and from what I could tell they were in real nice shape with some possible BU's in there. The bag contained 40 coins and he got $400 from the shop. I wish I could have met him outside before he walked in and given him $450. If I would have counter-offered while in the store, I would have been thrown out on my *$$.

Looks like silver and Gold has taken a pretty sizable dip since the last time I looked (last week sometime)

Yes it has but the dealer's offer will reflect that also. If photoeric21 wants to sell he will still get more value from Midwest Refineries. I have to get the most bang for my buck at this point in life. I don't owe the local dealer any favors. The cash money from selling 100 walkers will get a dealers attention anyway.

Ok, I was just seeing if it was the shop I go to, Midwest Money in south St. Louis. I am pretty sure they only pay x face for generic circulated Morgans but increase it for Uncs since those do not go into the bucket, they go in a case or on the bid board.

Just a note on Midwest Refineries ... I sent them a gold necklace (just under an ounce of .96 fine). They advertise that they pay a set percentage of spot at the time of refining. They had my necklace for 5 days and gold spiked during that period. They just happened to pay the "lowest" spot for the five-day period, which was on day one of receipt. I also sent some junk silver in the same order. Silver actually went down from day one to day five. I got paid the day five spot. What they actually pay is a percentage of spot for the "lowest spot price between the day of receipt and refinement". In a volatile market you could lose by using them.

Alright here's my update and some explanation. First the numbers I brought in 100 silver half dollars. All dated between 1941 and 1946. All the coins were very very circulated. Some were so worn that it almost looked like a blank piece of metal. I was offered $5.60 per coin. This was about 90 percent of melt value give or take. So this is what happened. I asked him what he would offer me per coin if I agreed to spend at least half the money at the shop. (I can always add some Morgan dollars, plus I have a nickel set that needs some filling) He told me if I did that he would offer me another 15 cents per coin (so 5.70 or about 92 percent of melt value) I almost took it but he didn't *currently* have any of the coins I needed for the nickel set. So here's the bottom line. I took the 5.60 per coin and received $560.00. He gave me 460 in check form and allowed me to pick 9 morgans from the common-date basket. I'm happy with the deal. I like giving him my business because he's a good guy and goes out of his way to take care of his customers. Let me know what you all think.

as long as you are happy with the deal then I don't see how anyone could say it was a bad deal
