I don't know WHY I keep watching their "coin" programs........ But last night they were selling the new Bald Eagle dollars for ........get this....... $150.00 (plus shipping & handling) Now of course each one was "slabbed & graded" by NGC and the grade on them was PR70 dcam........DEEP CAMEO........They "somehow" got their hands on thousands of these "dcams"........? isn't that interesting !......I got to witness the " salesman techniques" in FULL FLAVOR ! Of course they were also selling the new $5.00 gold bald eagle coin for $500.00...... They were selling the half dollar bald eagle coin too.......but I turned the channel in anger and disgust How do they keep on finding people paying MASSIVE over value prices for stuff...... ... .....It's angering...but really just sad ! I just really don't get it.......and you know ........A LOT of the stuff they sell.......YOU CAN STILL BUY FROM THE U.S. MINT YOURSELF! So.......what are the thoughts on HSN selling a $150.00 Bald Eagle Silver Dollar pr70 D-cam NGC slabbed & graded coin ?.... Edited by eaglefoot 04/06/2008 1:03 pm

Remember this. When they say stuff like "They are flying out the door" and "The lines are lit up", it is all BS sales talk. I can remember "Coin Vault" guys on Shop at Home spouting this garbage, and see where they are today..... If they made so much and sold so much, they would not be off the air. MM

Most of my friends and family members know that I collect coins, and every once in awhile somebody will ask me about this coin or that coin that they saw on TV, or in TV Guide, or in USA Today, or some other national publication. I usually tell them that if the ad went looking for you, then it's a rip off. It's sad that some people choose to make a living ripping off the public. I don't buy the "buyer beware" argument either. I think we should hold the publications/tv stations responsible for their advertisers. If enough people wrote into USA Today and complained about their theiving advertisers, then I would hope that they would stop running the ads.

Yea,
...and why is the phone always ringing in the background, am I supposed to jump up and say "they're not gonna have anymore if I don't hurry". I mean, PICK UP THE PHONE AND SELL A COIN!. No, it just rings and rings and rings...what a scam!.

I actually really really like watching these shows.
But I only do it so I can see the coins.
I've never made a purchase.. though they had some sort of mint set deal going in regards to the new quarters.
Still didn't buy though

I have to admit I watch once in awhile but never buy. Too much hype, but they do have some interesting facts about the coins sometimes as far as history, mintages etc. I know I could get all that info somewhere else but for about a half an hour or so it does entertain me before I flip the channel.

No, it was $149.95.......I "rounded up" to $150.00 !...... Which is another thing I've never understood......If they say $149.95....is that supposed to "trick us" into thinking....hummmmm....it's only $140 some odd dollars instead of $150.00 something?.....Does that really fool anybody?...... Cause I immediately round up the nickel! Ha Ha Somebody involved in sales marketing somewhere in the world should tell his boss that that technique DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE !......We as the public ARE NOT FOOLED by lowering the price a nickel or so.........so that the denomination will be appear lower on the main price.......they do this with t.v's....computers...toys....books.....tools....groceries......EVERYTHING ! .....AND I SAY IT DOES NOT WORK !...STOP IT !....JUST ROUND IT UP AND CALL IT $150.00 OR WHATEVER IT IS ?........Even go $161.72 AND ADD THE TAX........Sheeeesh ! We're not going to buy something because it's a nickel LESS than the biggest number.....I DON'T CARE WHAT STUDIES HAVE SHOWN....! .... THE STUDIES ARE WRONG ! Here's a simple scenerio..... "I would have bought this book Pete, but it was $20.00.....so I bought this one instead which was only the low price of $19.95 !.... LOOK AT THE SAVINGS AND THE DEAL I GOT" !.......(that's just stupid!)... Just doesn't happen.......

Sorry, but despite repeated warnings from myself, my wife does in fact feel that $19.99 is far less than $20. I've even got my eight year old son telling her, she doesn't listen. I think she's looking for the justification and "less than $20" is far better than $20.
Though you are correct to a degree eaglefoot, there are definitely enough people out there that know it but still fall for it.

When was the last time anyone paid attention to the extra cent on gas prices? Or have seen less than 9/10th's? It seems to me with prices reaching $4.00 per gallon they could do away with the tenths entirely

Jays-Dad......... Ha Ha.. ...when you put it that way.....I have to agree with you !.....I sit corrected !.......People DO continually fall for that.......but it's a mental thing.... in search of the best possible deal no matter how small !.......and I have people in my life who do that too.......but I shake my head about the matter nonetheless !....
