I bought a raw 1931 S Lincoln Wheat last year with XF details for $130. I was thinking about getting it slabbed and (under 10X magnification) noticed several tiny scratches on the obverse. They are very shallow but just deep enough to go through to "shiny" cooper under the surface.

Any ideas on conserving this piece? I'd love to avoid NCS and go with PCGS but it looks like body bag material right now.

Thanks!

copper is very hard to conserve and keep its color intact, I don't know if I would even try if I was wanting it slabbed by PCGS. I don't think any conserving practices would remove the scratches anyway, I think that would go in the category of coin doctoring instead of conserving

Nothing you can do about those scratches. I bought this one a few months ago for $135:

I like the toning on this. But yeah, unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the scratches.
