The art on them is terrible, the whole 'little' dollar thing is terrible, then they are a gold 'color'...
I agree that we shouldn't honor EVERY pres, the edges should be reeded, and there is no good stopping point.
The mint is just looking for larger denominations for folks to take out of circulation on a large scale. Makes the government more money. That is all they are about. Forget art, dignity, and the collector... How can we squeeze more dough out of the Sheeple? That's what it's about. Commems are getting that way too. Started out honorably enough, but is looked at as a cash cow by bureaucrats.

My preference is not to only honor the "good" presidents, but rather to honor all presidents. A bad president to one person might be considered a good one to another, so that could start another uproar. If the same logic were applied to states, would we only make State Quarters from the "good" states? Regarding Carter or Clinton dying first, maybe this quote from the Mint will answer that. It says, "The Presidential $1 Coin Program will run for about 10 years beginning in 2007. It honors all the past Presidents of the United States who have been dead for at least two years, in the order in which they served in office."

Reasons why I hate them(not in any order):
1. They won't circulate 2. This is the continuing trend by the US mint trying to release an many coins as possible in a series 3. They're ugly

If I bring a new roll to work to use in the pop/soda machine everyone buys them because they think they're awesome.
I took a roll last night to play a friendly game of dice with my friends and I didn't bring any change home. I'm known as the bank that buys all the change and dollars back (to search of course). This time all $25 of the dollar coins were in the hands of the others and noone wanted to cash them in at the end of the night.
Well, I have to admit that I gave each of the 2 kids 1 to put in their piggy bank. The dad asked me if they were gold and I had to kind of laugh.

I work with over 600 people and I have never heard a bad thing about them. People ask me, where did you get those? My grand kid would like one...
Every president is the same thing. I just spend them in the pop machine.
The problem is that noone knows that they can get them from the bank!

I voted Love them, even though I really wish I had a 60/40 type response (tough one indeed, nds76). So, majority rule... Love Them 1. Love all Presidents, good or bad; it is a tough job. 2. Dislike the Dollar Bill, its time has come. 3. Love Dollar coins (see above). 4. Love how they mess with someone's head when you spend them. 5. Love the controversy/debate/discussion they bring to CCF. 6. Love the price (face value); cheap easy collection! Hate Them 1. Hate having Date/Mint on the edge. 2. Hate the ambiguity in the law: can they skip Carter to mint Regan if Carter does not die two years before his is due? 3. Would prefer a nice Ike size dollar coin! 4. Hate that they will change the edge in 2009, making my OCD flare!

I love them and hate them for as I look at the edge the lettering is not the same on all of them eg face up lettering upside down or right side up

As a foreigner I think they are great, not that I can't get my hands on them because you have to play like $6 or more for these comms from the US, my State Quarter series stops somewhere around 2001 and I only have one comm nickel as well, but they make american coins more interesting and they tell us something about the US, which most coins do not do.

Here's another reason to hate them: www.Deleted004.comThey are only worth $0.07 each when all is said and done. That shows how much profit they make on each one you don't circulate! The State Quarters are worth $0.07 each as well. The apparently wanted a way to massively increase their profit margin. Just think if the ' State Quarters' were 'state golden dollars'. Edit:I keep editing, and it keeps deleting my link to metal value of golden dollars. Trying to outsmart the bad word filter is a no no, any link that shows up "www.deletedxxx.com" means that site is in the bad word filter and shouldn't be used on this forum, Edited by Bryan1315Edit2:Sorry, I thought the site just didn't like me last night! I suppose you got reasons for blocking that site... Lesson learned.

voted hate em Some of the designs are attractive but most are very unappealing. If it weren't a series and it was just a normal issue that last as long as a Washington quarter has....would you love to collect it?

Voted "hate them"...... I started out "loving them".....but once one begins to realize the "billions minted" and all of the "repackaging" ploys in "proof" and "uncirculated" condition.......there is just soooooo much of "this" out there now and will continue to be out there for soooooo long........I don't know....it just ruins it for me...... High grade examples will be out there for hundreds of years thanks to the marketing geniuses involved...... it's fine actually that not just "the select few" will be able to get them...... this brings many millions more people to the "coin collecting" world.....and THAT's a wonderful thing........but minting them in the Billions and with everyone carting around Proof and Uncirculated sets ( repackaged in SO many different forms).......dunno......there's just a DE-valueing of them in that respect for me........There is no "luster" in them for me anymore...... ...... They should have only had a "Low Limited Mintage Number".....a VERY[/u] low mintage number available for Proof and Uncirc sets........ THEN they would have SOLD OUT SUPER FAST !.... ....now THEN you'd have had something.. ....but not now... ...nope.......they're just barely this side of worthless to me.... I maintain a couple of Presidential albums......have given away a couple up to date ones to family......and up until this point have still been purchasing Proof & Uncirc sets....but I'm just not "excited" by them anymore......DANG the U.S. Mint!...
