Poll Question
Yeah I know, I'm only giving you two choices here but its because I want hard answers...LOL! I think these are the most hiddeous coins! Maybe, just maybe I might have given them a chance if there were no edge lettering.

I was just thinking that you wouldn't be able to complete this set because the last few presidents are still alive. Will the series just stop then pick back up when one of them kicks the bucket? What if Clinton goes before Carter? Will they just skip Carter and go with Clinton or will they wait to make these in order of their presidency? Will this series be ongoing for all future presidents or will there be a cut off point?

The whole pretense of issuing coins honoring each president is rediculous to me. But I have bought a roll of each so far for my kids. Maybe by the time LBJ comes around I'll be broke or pushing up daisies! Hope I'm broke. nlp

I voted hate 'em. I think that coins should be reserved to honor our best presidents. Letting everyone - even the bad ones - in doesn't make sense to me.

I hate them because they are just hideously ugly and feed into the series madness that is plaguing our coinage.

The reverse of the coin is fine actually. The tired old presidents are something else!

I have no particular issue with the designs, or the concept of a series of "circulating" coins honouring your presidents. Nor do I have a particular problem with putting the mottoes on the edge - lots of other countries do that. But I voted no, because the innovative concept of putting the date and mintmark on the edge gets a big thumbs down from me. When I put a coin into a 2x2, I want to be able to see the country, date, denomination, and mintmark (if present). With the Presidential dollar coins, I only get two out of four.

I'd like them a whole lot better if you could read the date and mint mark when they're in a 2x2, album, or some such.
Some of the designs are okay at best. Does anyone else think the portrait for the last one this year (Van Buren) looks like Charles Winchester III?
So overall, no, I don't really like them. So why am I collecting them?

I liked the idea of using the edge for 'In God We Trust', but did not know they are placing the date there now.

I'm not sure that I "hate them". I just don't find the likeness of Millard Fillmore or Gerald Ford to be a compelling image for a coin.

Guess I like the idea of a dollar coin (instead of a dollar bill) and Presidents are a good start. The motto and date on the rim sucks. So much for conforming to Political Correctness. I have many. I'm going to get a roll or two for my kids, but probably not going to collect too many of these.

I'm not a fan. I think the coins make all the Presidents look like fictional cartoon characters. And, like Sap said, the edge lettering is nice but not with the Date/MM. Look at the Swiss 5 Franc coin with stars along the edge. Its a very nice touch, but the keep the Date and MM on the face of the coin! I also feel that this "type-series" thing the mint keeps pushing is getting out of hand. 200 State Quarters (plus 24 in 2009), 12 Westward Nickels, XX Presidents, and coming soon the new Pennies. They should have quit while they were ahead and only used the quarters. I would much prefer to see Sacagewa make a comeback. This coin has a certain "feel" to it that others in the best have had.
