Has anyone ever pulled anything good from those 5000 Wheat cent lots on the bay? I bought 2 lots once and am still searching through them. So far I have found all the cents for 1941-1958 and have put them in my folder. Now I am working on sorting through the rest so I can hopefully put a dent in my 1909-1940 folder.

I've never bought bulk Wheats from eBay but, the results you mention so far are typical. The vast majority will be 40s and 50s. If you want to make a dent in your pre-1940 folder, take a look at this:

$67 for 1k wheats doesn't seem like too bad of a deal if you are indeed able to put together a full wheat date set. Works out to 6.7 cents a coin. You could probably do better price-wise, but those lots are going to be 90+ percent 40s and 50s, like spruett001 said.

Full disclosure:

The listing I posted is a CCF member's so I trust that the description is accurate.

I also saw an eBay suggested listing for 10 rolls of "unsearched" Wheats coming from a massive consigned hoard. The price is $50 (for 500 cents) so I don't think $67 for 1000+ is bad at all.

I'll vouch for this sale as well! CCF member name is Crazyb0. I actually suggested that he charge more than that for the wheat lots, and just enable best offers.

Thanks Spruett for the good word. Ya, that's my listing on the bay. If anyone has questions, PM me, I'll try to answer them. I've purchased bulk wheat cents to the tune of over 30,000...I catalogued each order on spreadsheets, know EXACTLY what was in each lot ofcrap, er, coins. Most all orders of 1000, fell into a mix of 4-11% of the coins were pre 1940, meaning 90% or more were the 40's and 50's...each group was mostly all the "commons" is what I call them. 40's were P mints, 50's D mints, 1934-39 P's, then maybe a handful of p-mint teens/twenties. I can't say I never found any "good ones" , 09vdb and a 26s, is all.

I searched all over USA for truly "unsearched", ain't gonna happen folks. Only one time did I "luck out", found a fellow who bought wheats from his craft sale business for other items. Cost was $75 plus shipping, first order was 53% pre 40's 22D, 6-09vdb's, couple 26S. Got excited, (greedy), bought two more batches, $164.00 or so, those were just about the worst screw job I've had, less than 4% were pre-40's, had ROLLS of 56D, 57D, 58D. DISGUSTING! Most of the bulk was bought for $56, and suplimented with bags of 20 "good ones" for $5 a pop. That's how I built my personal, grandkids and for sale collections and bulk offers. The one mentioned I "built", read the description please. Any questions, just ask!

You got lucky and found one of the few real deals. Just goes to show the value of CCF!

99% of them are BS. "Unsearched" means "unsearched by me" and typically means I bought somebody else's (searched) lot or several somebody's lots and I'm reselling it on. Typically these are seeded with a few semi-key dates in beat up condition for the advertising value.

A few more details I forgot to include. I bought them on the bay a few years ago and I payed $68 including shipping for them. I have been going through them slowly since then. Today I finally sorted through the last of them so in the next few days I will put them in my folder and when I am done with that I will report back here which ones I am still missing and which one is the lowest mintage I found.
