I've never gotten a $100 box of nickels before and decided that today was better than tomorrow. I went to the bank and asked for it, to which they looked at me like I had three heads. Anywho, my wife also thought I was crazy. I just spent forever looking at these and heres' what I found. Mind you, I am new at this so please excuse me for not knowing exactly what to keep and what to give back. ----- 1939 2x 1940 2x 1941 1946 1951 1951D 2x 1952 2x 1954 1954S 5x 1958D 2x 1959 5x 1959D 2x 1960 2x 1960D 4x 1961D 1962 5x 1962D 3x 1963 4x 1963D 28x 1964 35x 1964D 3x 1965 1966 1968S 1973 (Front-Republiica De Panama, Back-Cinco Centesimos De Balboa) 2x 1987 (Canadian) 2x 1995 (Canadian) ----- So....How do I do? Pokermike, You've got some nice finds there. Personally, I keep any nickels before 1960, any with an 'S' mint mark, and any foreign coins.
Dhughesz, 1964 and 1964-D had HUGE mintages. Up till then no nickels had mintages over 281 million. Each of the 1964 issues had over a billion. There have only been a couple years since then that have hit a billion.

^^ 1964 was the last year for silver circulating coins--the mint anticipated there being massive hoarding in '65 so they produced a s***-load of nickels to try and make up for the coming shortage. 2.8 billion nickels is ALOT of nickel lol. Interestingly though, high grade 64's seem to be pretty rare. Other nickels minted that decade can still be found in AU+ grades but I've yet to come across a 64 or 64D.
Pokermike...
That box seems pretty average...nothing great, but a good total amount. The 54S is probably your best find in the group. I say go out and get another box or two in the coming days....I say you'd be due for a few silvers and maybe a Buffalo!
