Does anyone have a recent book price for one in this condition please?
The few I've seen are low grade and poorly preserved. Unusual for a 17th century token mine has plenty of sharp detail and even a little residual lustre around some of the letters.

Obverse: LVKE * NOVRSE * MAIOR * 1657 (star) surrounding C.G (R in field below the C).
Reverse: FOR . NECESSARY . CHANGE (star) surrounding the city shield.

Thanks.

Very nice, seldom see tokens from this era, and this one is preserved with much higher detail than most. My only price guide is very out of date, and likely was never accurate to begin with, more of a reference to show what is out there and relative rarity. Best way to figure out price would be to try and find recent sales, but never really see these come up for sale. Nice piece!

Thanks for the speedy reply!
Same here, the most recent reference book I have for these is Seaby's British Tokens 1970.
I have several 17th century tokens but this one is by far the best. Its currently resting in a bath of olive oil and will stay there for a couple of months after which I'll have a go at that carbon spot with a dab of acetone.
The sales records I have found are for examples in a much lower grade than this one so, hopefully, someone on here will have a recent price guide.
