Mystery Indo-Greek/Scythian Silver-Plated Coin-Please Help ID

I picked up this coin recently and was told that it might be an official issue from a mint where the officials were more "enterprising" than usual. Does anyone know what it is? echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 07/01/2017 7:43 pm What is the size and weight? Is it a drachm or tetradrachm? This is an interesting coin of what appears to be Azes II. Official coins are made of billon silver, but this one clearly appears to be a fouree which I have not seen before. Report this Post to the Staff
svnhson Valued Member United States 102 Posts	Posted 07/01/2017 8:49 pm I don't have a scale at home, unfortunately, but the diameter is roughly 15 mm. The dealer I bought it from said the (other dealer) he bought it from said it might be an issue where the mint officials were using copper instead of silver and keeping the profits. It was with coins of several different types, all Indo-Greek or related and several fouree, supposedly from a hoard called the "Mickalah hoard" or something like that. Report this Post to the Staff
echizento Moderator United States 23731 Posts	Posted 07/01/2017 8:58 pm At 15mm it would be a drachm. A fouree is an unofficial coin where the core of the coin is base metal covered by a layer of silver. I find it odd that a coin that was billon to begin with, with very little silver would have a silver layer that would probably amount to more silver than what an original coin would have.
