I've really been wanting to find a Cud in the wild with no luck. I bought four old Lincoln folders (starting 1941 that were mostly complete through 1970) months ago.

They've been sitting in a drawer since then because the coins were not very pretty (ugly toning, residue, corrosion, etc.). Tonight, I decided to pop all of them out to inspect more closely for any errors later.

Giving each one a cursory glance, this one made itself be known. It's too bad about the corrosion but, it's the only one I have (that I know of ).

I believe it is CU-1c-1943S-12:

Great find! Who cares about the corrosion, I like it and would still buy it if it was for sale. :)

Nice Cud. I haven't found any Cuds on Lincoln cents or Wheat cents except on a 2005 West Virginia Quarter and a 2002 Louisiana State with a retained rim Die Break. :)

That is a nice Cud and not too many of the 43's are any better looking. I have only found 1 Cud and it was on a quarter. They are not easy to come by if you think about many coins you have already searched and now have come upon one pretty much by chance.

Yeah, that seems to be a popular hangout spot for Cuds on Steelies. I would have thought that the steel planchets were rough on dies but the CoC 1943 list isn't all that lengthy.

Nice Cud Spruett. Congratulations.
If it were mine I'd put a little mineral oil on it to protect it from further rust.
