I have muddled along reading with fascination at the knowledge that is shared in these forums - to that end: I have a 1945 half dollar that appears to have an error that might relate to a known error that is described as "hoof through date." Does anyone with knowledge of this error care to comment on my observation or possibly care to share your opinion of the image I am sharing? Thank you.

That is a Die Crack that appears on many George VI 50c.
The "Hoof Through Date" you refer to I think only pertains
to the 1946's and is called the "Hoof Through 6"
In 1949 there was a "Hoof Over Nine"

There are a number of different 1945 dies that deteriorated to die cracks that source from the unicorn's hoof . You have one of the less commonly found ones... nice find.

Here's a photo of the 1946 "hoof through 6". It is a die crack but it's much bigger than the usual die cracks. The 1949 "hoof in 9" is similar to this one but is more a single blob.
