I have 8 of these so far and these lines look like die trails to me. These are pretty difficult to photograph as all the lines I couldn't get in the pics. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Yep, those are Trail Dies. Trail Dies are caused by a worn die I think. Congratulations for finding 8 of them.

Nice find! They are caused when the die is receiving it's design it accidentally scrapes horizontally against the hub. It leaves recessed trails on the die.
Rest in Peace

Your welome Buddy. Trail Dies are one of my favorite errors. I've been fortunate in finding some really nice ones. They've always been around, but with the advent of the single squeeze hubbing process there are more produced and much stronger, and Major Trail Dies having many trails. The single squeeze also produces more Doubled Dies, but not as many major DD's. I consider it a trade off.
The Trail Dies are categorized by strength, number of trails, and offset direction of the trails. They can start on any device (buildings as well as letters and numbers), and trail off growing weaker as they go. That's because they were forming on the die even as it was separating from the hub. In some instances, there are Trail Dies with numerous offset directions depending on how many times the die jumped. When they go through the steps, the coin is given the additional Wavy Steps classification. They've occurred on the Memorial as well as the Monticello. There are other suspected contributing factors to their formation, like heat and thermal expansion, but for sure the die scraped the hub. I'll post a pic of a Major Tail Die with Wavy Steps in a couple minutes.

2013 is an excellent year for the nickels. Please pardon the old picture, it really doesn't do the coin justice. I keep meaning to update one.

CoinMasters, that's a very nice Trail Die! I bought 5 rolls of 2015 P Dimes on eBay and found a lot of reverse Trail Dies. I only kept 8 because there was too many of them to keep. Also, most of the Dimes were in a VLDS on the Obverse mostly. Some were in a VLDS on the reverse too, but wasn't as common.

I still haven't found one, but then I only search the coins that I find out in the wild.

They are pretty cool looking. Must keep searching.....

Thanks EandV. I don't understand why you'd buy 2015 dimes. I guess you were looking for Trail Dies. I suppose if you kept eight nice ones it was worth your while.
Buddy, I too search only what I find in the wild. I tweak that a little by paying face for rolls at the bank though.
Newbie that's a nice find, I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for the 2017's, thanks for posting it. Nice pics too.

CoinMasters, I bought the 2015 Dime rolls to try to get DDR's or error coins. I kept 8 nice Trail Dies that are pretty strong. I don't usually get Dime rolls, but wanted to experiment with it. I'll stick with my Lincoln cent rolls from bank boxes from my local bank.
