It is a wide rim (near date) 1979-P Dollar. Nice find.

The wide rim is normal on the 1980 & 81 dollars:

I can see why you asked because that 1 looks close to the rim and so does the star directly to the west. I just don't think it's close enough. And that last 9 is too far from the rim.

Not an expert on these, though -- still learning.

I think it is probably the close date, but an in focus image would be a big help.

Um.... that's the reverse. John1 wants a pic of the other side, obverse. I think it would be helpful if you could get the entire coin -- rims and all -- in the pic.

I think so. That last pic was pretty good.

Hang in there. There's a lot to learn and we're examining pretty tiny stuff here.

Just throwing this out there. What is the possibility of a rotated date? I'm sure it's minimal,But the rim looks funny to me as it might be a slight MAD given the high 9.

That's the reason I wanted to see a full obv pic. It looks like a slight MAD and not a near date to me.

I'm don't think that last image is an off-center.

I feel it is in the correct position for the wide rim/near date die variety.
