I need some help on what you think happened to the reverse of this penny. I just cannot seem to figure out how this could have been done. I would be interested in any opinions, and whether or not you think this may have happened in the minting process. It almost looks like the penny was partially melted, but as you can see, the obverse is not affected at all.
I'm not sure this scan does the coin justice, so I would be happy to answer any questions about the details of the coin.
