Hi there. This is my first post as you will see @ the left of the screen. A few months back, I came across a 1934 series D Fifty Dollar bill in immaculate condition. After a few nights of internet research I found that the only thing that would make this bill more valuable is if it has an error or the * star instead of a letter after the serial number. The bank is new york, and the back has a five digit number written in pencil that someone advised me not to try to remove because it could possibly add value.

Basically, I just wanted to say hello, and see if anyone would be nice enough to tell me if I have something of value here, or if the bill I saw - Identical to mine on ebay for a short while, at a starting bid of $2,500.00 (however it had the star), is way out of my bill's league?

Thanks in advance...

First of all, bills with that * on it are called Star Notes. Second of all, the writing on the note DOES NOT add value. It takes away value, unless people looking at the bill are EXTREMELY gullible. However, it may be a bad idea to erase it in case the bill is in rather good condition otherise. If the pencil smudges, you are worse off. And this bill, not being a star note, can NOT be compared to a star note, but it at least is worth over 50 dollars.

It would help if you post a scan of both sides of the note.
