Collections are being posted in other forums so let's do it here! Let's build a complete set of commemoratives starting with 1892 and going up to present day.

Rules:
1. We begin in 1892 and advance in alphabetic order as laid out in the Red Book.
2. The coin you post must be yours.
3. We don't need to be too rule-bound.
4. Multiples are okay - feel free to share!
5. Some commemorations have multiple coins, so post whatever you have on that day (i.e. Panama-Pacific Exposition, Olympics in Los Angeles, etc.)

According to the Red Book, this is the order - Let me know if I missed one!

Revised list - no longer based on Red Book

I'll get things started by adding the Columbian Exposition coins.

This should be a festival of eye candy! I can contribute in 93 years...so until then, I'll just be munching on lots of popcorn.
Searching for some US modern coins (cents through dollars) via my want list.

If you want coins that are actually owned by the people posting you are about to run into a major roadblock.
Gold commemoratives appear from 1903 to 1926 and the 1915 Panama-Pacific $50 coins are 6-figure items.
Some of the others are not inexpensive either.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

Kanga, that's why I added rule #4: "We don't need to be too rule-bound. If no one has a Pan-Pacific $50 gold piece, I think we can move on."

This is meant to be fun, not obsessive-compulsive.

Will be difficult to top that, but I would not be shocked if we somehow did.

Regardless, I am ready for this show.

Since we've already started I doubt changes are appropriate. However, almost every CSC and CGC collector has their collection with alphabetical priority rather than date priority.

True for both 50 or 144 sets and gold.

I must agree. Going by date is almost impossible given the long overlapping runs of many issues. It's not too late to start over with "A".

I am sure everyone has their collection in a spreadsheet and can sort by year.

Kidding aside, alphabetical might make better sense, but I admit I am just going to be a spectator for most of this.

I'm fine with alphabetical, just wanting to get something going. The Red Book goes by year, but also has an alphabetic reference so let's go by that.

Here's the issue, though - alphabetical works for classic commemoratives but not modern. So we'll have to switch mid-stream. If everyone is okay with that, then let's begin.

First up - Alabama

Thanks - I think this is a good idea. Easy to switch when we get to modern commems. Plus, this way you Columbian/Isabella owners get a second round of applause!

Let's go to Alabama!

Just as a reference point, we did a "Days of" thread for the classic series a few years ago: Days of Classic US Commemorative Coins
