I am not sure if you are aware or not but I am certain it is a counterfeit. Where did you get it from, I hope you didn't pay a lot for it. -PP

OMG, that coin looks like it came straight out of a cereal box. I hope you didn't pay much, or anything for it. What a real one looks like:

Sorry to say, not genuine- the Eagle has no neck, the date is crooked, stars are too small, and I think I see reeding on the edge... click this link for pics of a genuine 1798 and you will easily see the differences http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...um=348&pos=3

Hello Community members, First of all I would like to thank you guys for your great sense of humor love it! Yeah I had a feeling it might be a fake due to the fact that it seemed to good to be true. Now that I look at it very carefully the forth star on the right side of the face doesn't even look like a star. Good thing I didn't pay anything for it. I got it from a female friend who gave it to me out of love. Now I suspect her love for me was as fake as this coin. lol. I wonder if this coin has any silver in it, its very light and it might have some, not sure; most likely it wont. Thanks alot guys! appreciate the quick answers and you all have a great day! Once again thanks! Louis! p.s. on a side note, any idea how much a $100 gold certificate note from 1928 might be worth? I will try to post a picture of this item soon..

"Now I suspect her love for me was as fake as this coin." Whew!...I'm relieved to hear you didn't spend a small fortune on the coin. Now I'm wondering where your friend got it from I have to say it is one of the worst fake coins I've ever seen. Did she give it to you as a replica? -PP

Hey Pennypusher, She gave it to me as the real deal. I guess she had no idea it was fake; I had never seen a 1798 coin neither, so I also had no idea. I was just excited by seeing the date thinking I was going to be able to make a nice profit to buy me a nice car. :) guess can't always live in dream land, back to reality. hard work! long hours! = nice car! high gas prices + insurance = broke once again. She told me she got it from her "uncle." He probably knew it was fake. Since I didn't lose any money on this deal, no hard feelings. Now I have a nice cereal box Liberty dollar :) not a good one at that.. oh well :) thanks guys!

These are common Chinese fakes. They have been showing up on ebay for years now.

I wish the Chinese government would jump on the fake coin marker like they did to the school engineers after the earth quake.!

Hey, if ebay bans all of the Chinese fakes it will reduce the Chinese gross domestic product by 50%! They have to eat too.

If a coin has CC on it as it's mint mark, it may be a (Chinese Counterfeit!). Just kidding, but they are in the business for real. In a book by Philip K. Dick "Man in the High Castle" there was a huge counterfeit ring selling counterfeit (what was it?) Lighters, Civil War memorabilia? I forgot. But no one wanted to question the fakes too much, because it was such a huge business for everyone, and they didn't want to collapse the market. Could Dick's prophetic vision be becoming a reality in the Coin World?

Can the very worn coins, with very worn mintmarks also be fakes frequently?

These lower quality ones are usually just silver plated. The better quality ones (which I admit, I bought an 1804 dollar) are made of 90% silver. This one is pretty low quality, and there are some very convincing ones out there. Mine even has the writing and designs on the edge. I assume yours does not.
