Hi All, I just now joined. I've used this site often to check on some coins I have. For 40+ yrs I've been tossing coins (mostly pennies) into boxes and now I'm trying to get organized. I recently purchased a loop and it is tons better than the magnifying glass I was using. I see that many members provide very close up pics of their coins - could you tell me what you use to take the pics? I'd be appreciative. So far I've come across several coins that appear to be interesting. So far from what I see on this and other sites the neatest coin I have is a very nice 1969s penny that is double stamped - if that's the correct nomenclature, and I'd like to photo and post. Also have several 1955 pennies that have just the last 5 double stamped. Ok, nuff fer now. Looking forward to your responses. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum! It sounds as if you will be busy for a couple of days...As for the 1955 LWC's what you are describing is Die Deterioration from extended use. This one is often times referred to as the "Poorman's Doubled Die". Check them for die cracks on Lincoln's head.

To CCF , try to show us photos of some of your coins . You might have something with that 69-S ,But if it was thrown into a box of other Lincolns years ago it is probably not in the best condition .

Hi All, Thanks for Welcomes! As I explained I am an older guy and not up with current technology. So far I've been checking my coins for over 2 weeks and still have a few weeks to go to finish. I'm going to search this site to see if I can find how to take a pic/what kind of camera to use for my coins so I can post. in the mean time maybe someone has suggestions. dave700x, I love the "Poorman's Doubled Die" because it certainly applies to me!!!:)

You asked about what we use to take pix with. Some use fancy getups, digital cameras, professional lighting(lotta dough) others use phones, some just on macro others with clip on magnifiers. I use a USB microscope with a bit of modification(standpipe) for most all my pix. These are between $45 and $300 for the higher resolution models. Check out the photography thread here for more specifics. Take a look at the resources in the library here too, a lot of good "free" info. BTW, I'm an old dude to,,welcome to the forum!
