Pull it out or leave it in?.

Looks like a small nick in the original bag then the introduction of humidity?. I can't tell, but I think its still wet in there.

Thanks,

A.

It's only a silver bar and doesn't really hold any numismatic value other then melt.

Pull it and leave it alone. It kinda has some character to it now

A lot of people seem to think there is a premium on silver bars of certain manufacturers, but I still only buy them at spot. The primary dealers I work with feel the same way and sell them the same whether it is a generic bar of an engelhard.
Personally, I like to feel the actual metal in my hand versus through plastic. It's kinda cool for me I suppose.

I agree that most bars do not carry a premium - but- there are collectors of some of these kinds of bars. We have a book of them at the shop , but I have yet to look through it to see which ones carry a premium over melt. Of the thousands of designs on these bars, very very few have a premium. I also believe that Engelhard bars (Silver or Gold) are no longer made, some of those may carry a premium too. I see quite a few of the bars like the one posted, in 1 ,5, and 10 oz bars- none of those carry a premium though.

I would cut it from its tomb.

I had an older serial numbered SilverTowne bar that was clearly a poured type when I first started buying up silver. I thought, at the time, that since it was older, it might be "more valuable", but it clearly was not. After talking to multiple contacts at SilverTowne, they apparently don't even track the serial numbers so there was no way of even telling when it was made. I sold it for spot price when it got up to $20/ounce. It seems that people on ebay will pay a premium when it comes to bullion, but I would say 99.9% of dealers won't.

The damage has already been done, so you might as well pull it out and salvage what you can.

Pull it out and soak it in a solution if 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 cup of very hot water in a glass (pyrex) dish with a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom. All of that nasty will transfer to the aluminum foil. Rinse the bar and let it air dry. It should be good as new.

The hotter the water, the better. Make sure you use enough water to completely cover the bar. Make sure the aluminum foil is larger than the bar. You might even want to double up (just fold a piece in half) on the aluminum foil since you have quiet a but of nasty to transfer.

I too say just take it out. Leave it as is though. Has kind of a old look about it now. Nice paper weight.
