Yea so I bought this bag, some teens, 1920s and 30s. But if I have to see another 1944 or 1956 I'm going to scream. First I sorted through the dates, then the mint marks and am in the process of rolling them. No rarities, a poor mans 1955 double die. Of course if the bag was unsearched it would have costed me at least double or triple. More than likely it would have been searched anyway with a few semi-keys thrown in to appease. Does anyone know the going rate for a roll of wheaties these days?

Sorry to hear about your dilemma but it could have been worse. Sometimes it is just the fun of looking.

JohnnyD, You are not the first person here to be scammed or disappointed with your purchase and you probably won't be the last. The best information that I can give you is go over them again looking for smaller errors (coppercoins.com) is a good reference. That will give you at least a little more value for your purchase. Then do an ebay Advanced search and find out what rolls have sold for. Good Luck!

Sounds about normal to me. IMHO, $95 for 17 lbs of wheat pennies is a great price, rare dates or no.

After going through my first large collection of Wheaties I was a little disappointed too. Going through so many Wheaties really makes you appreciate how rare some of them are. Anyways, I still had a lot of fun going through them. The average dealer will buy rolls of wheats for $1.50(3x face), If you want to sell on ebay you might sell them for twice that. -PP

I'm with Steamwalker. less than $.04 per Wheat isn't a bad price for common dates regardless of what you found.

I always wonder how truthful these dealers are when they say the coins are "unsearched." I believe all are searched, especially for rare dates and mintages.

And I stand behind you in that claim Silver Eagle. No educated "collector" would ever sell any coins, without first knowing exactly what he was selling. While you may find some "unsearched" or random lots at yard sales or things of the sort, lots, especially on ebay, are not unsearched. They use that term to entice people to bid high, hoping for a gem. Its' human nature to pay a small amount and hope for riches..lottos, casinos and so on all go on this. ~Mike~

Yeah I figure the price of copper will continue to go up just like everything else and a couple years from now it will be hard to get 2500 for even 95$.

$95 is cheap for 2500 wheats.

I'm not going to mock you for paying $95 for what is nominally worth $25 but better luck next time with dealers who check their lots and then dump them on some poor optimistic soul like yourself.. :(

If you had $95 worth of fun while sorting and searching, then I would say it was money well spent regardless of the outcome.

Yeah, you still got a pretty good price. If you see the same thing for $80 or less GRAB it, because you have very little chance at any real loss.

Sorry guys, but I'm just thinking of the poor mailman delivering the parcel (talk about wearing out your welcome mat).

I do believe the $95 price tag is not bad. I am with Silver Eagle. I wonder how many of these wheat cents are unsearched. I'll tell you what, if I had a "barrel" of wheat cents and there was a chance of an 09-S VDB,09-S,14-D,31-S,55DDO just to name a few, I would look through all of them.
