The coin is either copper or bronze. It is 16.5-17 mm in diameter. Because it appears to be hand-hammered and its over-all condition, I think its at least 1500 years old. Unfortunately, I cannot identify the script.

Your coin is an Islamic civil issue, probably a fals. The script seems to indicate roughly Umayyad or Abbasid (c. 700-1250). I can't read it, but some members here can.

Under the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates, gold and silver were centrally controlled, while local municipalities were more or less free to do whatever they wanted or needed with bronze coinage. It is a frighteningly intimidating field if you can't read Arabic.
New Sale! Inexpensive classic Greek silver, over 2,400 years old!

Congratulations! You have a rare type of Umayyad copper fals, Walker 698, probably struck in North Africa in the 710s or shortly thereafter. What makes it unusual are the legends. The common Syrian type reads (in Arabic) la ilah / illa Allah / wahdahu // Muhamad / rassul / Allah ("There is no god but Allah alone // Muhammad is the apostle of Allah"). Your coin reads la ilah i- / -lla Allah / wahdahu // Muhammad 'abd Allah / wa rassulah {"There is no god but Allah // Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His apostle". The way the first line on the obverse breaks mid-word rather than between words suggests a mint in North Africa but there is no way to be 100% certain on that point. Quite a find.
