Meow has CRH for a few months now and has a good idea how LMC look. Like how the "States of" on the reverse is flat quite often and is nothing to get excited about. Well Meow came across this penny today, and has not seen any that look like this. Its not a huge variation, but to Meow it is significant enough to add it to the Cat hoard.

Just remember that you can't herd Cats. But that does not mean that Meow is not a good Kitty.

Very nice find and congratulations! It's a Greaser (Struck Through Grease). That example is worth keeping for sure!

So the question is: How do we know it is a struck through grease issue? Note the rim on the coin? This shows that the coin had a full strike.

If it were a weak strike, the rim would be slightly visible.

If it were a lower pressue strike, then they maybe no rom and very light design:

But your coin is showing a full rim and not missing the rim:

So the answer the my own question is: The rim is present and the devices are prevented from forming because of the the devices being filled with grease on the prevent devices.

On another thread the devices were polished off. The missing rim showed it was an altered coin, not a mint error. Interesting that these were all on the same thread today?

Nice find @MTK and seems to be worth saving in a 2x2.

Out the many thousands of pennies Meow has searched, not one has had obverse lettering issues. So I caught this Cats eye. So Meow is learning and getting better at CRH. At least Meow did not post about the wording 'States of' being flatter. Meow has seen so many pennies like that, that Meow at least knows what might be a worthy item much better as time goes by. Thanks all.

Meow wishes it was a bit less tarnished, but will still add it to the Cat hoard. Meow was also tempted to polish it, but all here say that is a no no. And acetone did nothing to help it, at all.

Meow thought well... acetone will have removed any surface grease so that the coin will stay as is in the hoard.

As for Coops' picture, don't eat too many chips dear kitty or you will end up looking like the Calico Beachball we used to have. We still have the Calico, but after two years on her diet, she's a svelte 11 pounds (except for the pouch of skin that used to hold the beach ball - most unattractive when she runs)
