Just to be clear, the damage will physically prevent it from going into my Dansco unless I alter or likewise damage the hole.

As for the true value of this thing, it's a tough call. Cleaned and damaged coins, in general, are much more subject to the whims of buyers than non-damaged coins are.

Why wouldn't the seller put a Best Offer on it - just to see where the market on that damaged coin is? Doesn't mean he has to accept any offers.

Quote: Why wouldn't the seller put a Best Offer on it - just to see where the market on that damaged coin is? You would think. I don't think this coin is going anywhere any time soon.

The expectation would be for a discounted sale if that was on the listings. They may already feel the price is fair, or the coin may be a consignment from someone and that's what they want for it type thing.

Concur that is truly a shame to view the key date LWC in this damaged state - Relative to anyone willing to pay the seller price for an authenticated 1909-S VDB - that is an interesting story that will be decided by the market for such coins.

Quote: Why on earth would someone slab THAT coin? And what sucker's going to pay that price for a common coin? 66+ is not an easily found grade for that date. They were obviously thinking it was a 67 and had a good eye to spot that it was very very close. Quote: Some of the stuff I see slabbed just makes me shake my head.. So many bias comments made without doing research make me face palm.

While a 71-s PCGS MS66 is around a 20$ coin - a MS66+ can get up to around $90/100 real fast - so I'm not surprised
