Despite the damage, it's still a key date for the series. Heres one that sold for $400 with admittedly less damage, and you can find many more like it with a similar selling price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-VDB...047675.l2557 They're still highly desirable even in the worst shape possible. $550 is a little steep, but I personally can see myself paying around $150 for it, and would bet on it selling for more quite easily at auction. The value there is in grading it isn't for the grade, but for the authenticity verification. If this piece were raw, I'd never even consider spending money on it, and many people would share the same sentiment who would have otherwise been interested

Adam E, thank you for the link! It was the proof that I needed. Now I am not skeptical about it anymore.

I believe it to be a $500 coin.

Maybe it can be repaired by filling those cuts with brown epoxy .

The damage might keep it from fitting in my Dansco, so I will pass.

A coin with this type of damage will have very few buyers that would want to add it to their collection. This is the type coin to use as a hole filler. You may easily sell it between $100 to $150, but $500 will be a very hard sell.
A collector that can spend $500 for a coin could put a little more with the $500 and possibly buy a lower grade problem free coin.

It's possible to sell it as you said, but it will be pretty challenging though. I remember seeing this coin up for sale a couple years ago as well (has been relisted many times).

I agree .. it would be a hard sell ...
But I feel at some lower price it would be possible.
If it were mine I would sell it cheap ... just to be rid of it

You said it. Silly price to me, but we'll see what happens in just a few hours.

Coinfrog, it will be interesting to see if he'll relist it.
