Hi,

Sorry to post in this very old thread; I thought I'd share my 1862 1/4 rupee (v1ctoria) for informational purposes as there doesn't seem to be a picture here and I am also looking for similar to compare to mine.

Please feel free to use the pictures in the forum if you have an updated thread on the topic.

Just discovered this thread today, probably as it predates when I started posting here nig time around January of this year.

It was great and a lot of detail. I have a few Indian coins - but none like yours Palouche!

What I do have to show are British west african 2 shilling coins.

1946 2 shillings brass EF (Apologies for the bad photo).

But what is interesting was before 1920 these coins were sterling silver and Florin sized.

They either changed to brass because of price of silver, or the fact silver did not last well in the hot humid climates of Nigeria, Gold Coast and Sierra Leone (Possibly used in the Gambia and Cameroons too?)
Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi.
If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

Hi Princetane...
Nice couple of coins there especially the 1916

...I'm pretty sure the change in metal composition was due to the first world war and the repercussions that followed.

I will be restarting this thread in the New Year with some new sets that I've completed this year....Just in case your interested......Paul
