Hey everyone, my 1st post, so please be kind...

Found a 1971 penny with a huge dimple right in the very middle of the coin in the 6 o'clock position. I'd say the dimple sticks up about 3/32nds of an inch, and the other side has an equally sized indent. My 1st impression was that someone had struck it with something round, but the interesting thing is that the coin itself is not at all deformed, it's perfectly flat, and it is definitely in the very center, it couldn't get "more in the middle".

Any ideas? Thanks!

To CCF! It appears to be some type of counterstamp that was punch into the coins surfaces.

Looks like Shriner symbols on the obverse counterstamp.

First welcome to CCF. Second, I agree with @denman that this counterpunch may have been done by the Shriners. It is an interesting piece and worth saving in a 2x2, although you won't get rich off of this find.

There was a similar one posted a couple of weeks ago only
I believe it had the Masons logo on it.
