Well, you didn't get burnt. Maybe a tad pricey, but it all depends on the grade and I'm not an expert on these. It'll all depend on whether the next buyer sees it as a VG or a F12.....

Yeah, they may have overstepped the grade on this one with the AU declaration. That coin is probably F-12 at best and should be priced accordingly. There is considerable wear throughout. I always start with how much wear the right leg shows on the obverse to figure the level of wear.

Since you are Just a Beginner, as your name reveals, I would suggest picking up a copy of some type of grading book to keep on hand. I recently picked up a copy of "Official ANA Grading Standards of American Coins" recently and it has helped me quite a bit. Another one is called Photograde. Either of these will help you in the long run!

Maybe just a little singed; still, it's tough to find full date examples selling for much less.

Yup, I went against theadivces of most members and went for the PCGS price giude I knew I shouldn't have. Then I went on ebay USA, and realised they were going for less.. But I had already bid! I guess this has to happen to me once

Better a $6 oops instead of a $600 mistake. Small mis-steps like this will happen as long as you learn something from the experience.

You are not the first nor the last to make this type of mistake. Think of it as a small tuition payment for an education in your hobby.

I like it. I'd call it a VG, pushing a fine, with natural color. I like these 23S walkers, but I can't say exactly why. They're not all that common, yet they're less expensive than most of the earlier dates. They're really difficult to find above fine.

I don't think you would have been able to buy it if it doesn't show up on your home ebay

The real question is: do you like it? If you really like it and want it as an addition to your collection I personally do not see a problem paying a little extra for it (as long as you do not do that for every coin you buy). There have been times I have done this just because I have fallen in love with a coin or something that has been difficult to find for me.
