This is a new law they snuck in on November 9, 2018.
Why are they doing this? To keep track of gold purchases so it will be easier to seize.
The new law applies to gold bullion, gold dust, and non-manufactured precious metals. My question is what exactly is their definition of "non-manufactured precious metals?" ------------------------------------
"Non-Mailable Matter" in Canada. This is from canadapost.ca Section 5.2 "Other Miscellaneous Prohibited Items:"
Effective November 9, 2018 it is illegal to mail:
gold bullion, gold dust and non-manufactured precious metals unless mailed under an Agreement between Canada Post and the mailer
I called Canada Post and FedEx, both of whom have banned precious metals in their mailing system. I was told that the mailer and the shipper need to apply for an agreement if they intend to ship and it needs to be reviewed and approved by Canada Post. FedEx also said that these rules are put into effect because Canada has signed on to the United Nations Universal Postal Union Agreement for Commonwealth Countries which prohibits that transaction of collectible coins, currency and precious metals in the mailing system.
But when I if I were to buy NCLT on ebay or from the RCM, doesn't it get shipped by FedEx or Canada Post?

Quote: wonder how to ship coins to PCGS or NGC no postal no courier service
Maybe ICCS? But personally I'd never consider them here in the US (can't sell on ebay as certified coins).
If we can't ship to Canada then that will absolutely impact an already fragile situation with Canadian NCLT/Coin collecting in general. This can't be good.
I wonder who's benefitting from this. Certainly not Canada Post. Not the RCM. I can't think of anyone right now.
One would guess the RCM will have a compliance exemption with CP and Fed ex, this will give them a huge heads up on the single sellers as they have no options to deliver. This all depends on how hard it is to get this exemption or big players like Ampex will have no options for delivery, sometimes the governments just get to carried away instead of looking at the obvious why does the big 5 banks in Canada have huge branches in like Cayman Island ?
We'll never get any information from RCM but I have to believe the Canadian based coin dealers have researched the issue of shipping domestically. That is, if it now requires an agreement be in place, then they would have had to do it.
I know I have received a shipment via CP from a dealer in the past month. Also, if packages where being seized or refused for shipping we would have seen it in the news or social media.
Does anyone have a good relationship with C/A, CC&C or Gatewest that could ask one of them? Where is gatewest? He's often on this forum and must have some info.
John100 you are absolutely correct. Governments often leap before they look.
