New to coin collections...your advice comments are appreciated. Can someone tell me why this coin shows "INDIL" instead of "INDIE"..is it an error? I was unable to find anything on the internet. I realize that if you were to scratch off the upper two horizontal dash in the "E" that it would make an "L" however, when I look close there is really no sign of these horizontal dashes being scraped away. Also the coin isn't flat, its a bit domed. Odd?

What's on the other side? Looks more like a button or a token than a coin. John1

Indeed Odd JAYJAY most likely a scrapped off like you said even if you can see marks,, however could also be a Die break.

So I bought a microscope and it now really appears to be an actual "L" than an "E". Its my humble opinion that the two lower dashes have not been scrapped away...please see the attached photos. The first is the "L" that should be and "E" at the end of the word "INDIE". The other two photos are an actual "L" and "E" on the coin. Its clear the "L" at the end of "INDIL" looks very similar to the "L" in NEDERLANDS, and does not appear to be similar to the "E's" on the coin. Could this have been a spelling error at the mint vs a die break in the E? Comments appreciated, thanks.

The hole isn't supposed to have that bar across the midddle of it, thoguh - and it looks like it's all of one piece with the coin, rather than a later attachment.
What I believe you have is a button, made to look like a coin, rather than an actual coin that has been turned into a button. Which would also explain why it appears to be made of brass, rather than bronze. The spelling error INDIL instead of INDIE could be either an attempt to avoid a charge of "counterfeiting", or a mis-reading of the coin being copied by a button-manufacturer who doesn't speak Dutch.

Looks to me like someone made a hem weight out of a coin. Find those all the time around old house places with my metal detector
