I was curious as to the forums opinion on Roosevelt dimes.

I feel and I am not alone in thinking that this set is currently the least popular to collect. With all the State Quarters, new nickels, Presidential dollars, and Lincoln anniversary pending, etc. who would want to collect this series that has been fairly stale for over 60 years.

All the negative said, I personally like the series alot. It is the first set that I ever completed and these little guys can be just gorgeous when toned in an album. Even in high grades these are relatively inexpensive.

Does anyone ever think that this series will ever take off in popularity/price(assuming no change in the series or design)?

Does anyone think that the clad series is undervalued? (Look at census numbers) Or are they just too inexpensive/numerous to get certified?

While I am not the biggest FDR fan (nor his biggest detractor), I really like the Roosevelt dime. I agree, it is an overlooked series that is actually easy to complete. Like the Jefferson nickels, the key dates are affordable for even a modest collector.

I have to say, I believe it will take a design change to make the current Roosevelt dime more desired.

I would have to agree, but I just hope that it not one of the current styles. I hate the 3/4 profiles!! I think they should have redesigned it in 96 with the 50 year anniversary.

I'm a big fan of the FDR's. It's one of the few sets which doesn't have any keys in circulated condition. If you're patient you can put a complete circulated set together for melt value on the silvers and face value with the clads.

That said... I'm NEARLY finished with a MS63+ set and it's turning into a beating. I've finished the silver, proofs, and silver proofs BUT finding the 82's and 83's is turning into quite a chore. Just to keep myself motivated I decided to add the 50-64 proofs to the set as well as the 82 no mintmark. In the time it took me to find those I was only able to find the 82D. The combination of weak strikes, no mint sets, and few year rolls saved make me think that these 4 dimes are the most undervalued dimes out there.

I think this is also a good series to get training on. As has been stated, you can complete it rather inexpensively. But since a LOT of the coins are off the radar screen - for example, they're not on the Gray Sheets, you can make quite a hobby of just going to coinshows and cherry picking MS-grade stuff from dealers.
Value? Helas, I don't think the lower to mid grade silver Roosevelts will ever be worth a whole lot more than melt. There were just soooo many of them made and as has been said, there aren't that many collectors.
As far as clad. Tons of them and WHO collects these? At least the early ones have silver in them.

I agree. I think they missed an opportunity to combine this with an design that also commemorated WWII. IMHO, very few people could ever overlook FDR's role in bringing the United States through that war; the two themes could have made for a nice coin. I would compare it to representing the moon landing on the reverse of the Eisenhower dollar, since it was President Eisenhower that signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act into existence.
