I have a 1853 10 centimes coin and it's stamped 1870. Anyone have any idea why? Something to do with Franco Prussian war?

It's called a counterstamp. Probably never know why.
Notice the "1" has been double punched.
Might have some value to a counterstamp collector.
If you wait, all that happens is you get older.

Thanks for the input. I noticed the double one too. Interesting. Done some more digging elsewhere and apparently there were a few satirical over stamps in 1870 aimed at Napoleon 3rd due to him losing the Franco Prussian war in 1870 and fleeing. May be one of those.

It is. Been sorting through some old coins that were passed on and it certainly got my interest. Interesting history to it so glad I came across it.
