The photos are kind of bright but I think there is a bit of rub on the high points so I will call it AU55. However, if the appearance of wear is an artifact from glare, then I would call it MS63- limited by the mark on the cheek and the two by the date. It is a weak strike and the dies were probably worn too but it is definitely close to MS- lustrous fields are abundant and the flow lines are easy to see(also lending to the theory of worn dies).

It has a nice original look which is getting harder to find on 30s/40s Washington quarters. I have been assembling a 32-64 set for the past couple years and cherrypicking for eye appeal and originality has been tough for the early dates, especially branch mints.

Choice AU if the weak hair detail is from rub, or up to MS-63 if luster is intact over the high points. It's a nice looking quarter.

Unless the price has spiked, these early Philly Washingtons can be found for $10-12 or so in BU. I've picked up several of these recently just because they seem like a good deal. I remember pulling these dates from change as a kid back in the '60s. I could never find any that graded higher than fine or so. Maybe that's why a nice Unc seems special to me now.
