Attached are three photos of a 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, I found in a coin roll. The "970" in the date is doubled to the north. Does this appear to be from a double die are from Mechanical Doubling?
Looks at the centers of the devices for the spread. Stop looking at the outside edges of devices that show Machine Doubling and die deterioration in the direction of the rims. A doubled die will show enlarged devices with a spread often in the center of the devices. Your coin show device reduction of the normal device sizes. Machine Doubling is very common on the 1968-1972 cents. Most of the 1969-S DDO's show Machine Doubling on them. so a doubled die can be affected with Machine Doubling.
