What's next?

Well, that was basically my coin budget for this year, so next year I'll see about getting a similar quality 1916S Walking Liberty half dollar. There were a few at the coin show yesterday, but they were all ungraded and in pretty rough shape and I really want to hold out for something in the MS64-65 range. I've seen such coins on ebay for $3000-4000, so if I can't find one to examine in person at next year's show I may give that a try.

Now that I have "finished" my type set and proof type set (there's always room for an upgrade or two), rather than collecting any particular type of coin I've decided to focus on getting high grade "key dates" of various series. They tend to be rather expensive, however, which is why I have to limit myself to only one or two per year.

One exception to my "high grade" requirement so far has been the 1916D Mercury dime. Mint state examples are just ridiculously expensive (I refuse to spend more on a coin than I would on a new car), so I "settled" for a lower grade example with nice eye appeal that I could actually afford:

Just remember that with all the China fakes out there, we now have possibly several million more 16D's than were actually made. I bought one for $5 at a flea market.
