Hello everyone!
I joined this community a year back but have not been on in quite a spell. It's just as I remember though, full of solid information and not a small number of helpful and gracious people!

Returning to coin collecting since my days as a kid, the past couple of years have been exceedingly fun and quite the treasure hunt.

My area of current interest are the Proof coins from 1950-1970. I just love them!

I wanted to share with the community my latest find and acquisition. I just got my hands on the very finest 1967 Kennedy half NGC MS 69 Ultra Cameo (SMS). It is a population of 1 and it's more stunning than I could have ever imagined a non-proof Kennedy to be.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions. I'd love to hear your comments.

That's quite an acquisition! According to the PCGS auction results, that coin sold at Stacks Bowers in 2018 for $12,600. Here's the auction description.

Sorry guys. This photo process is not going well. It must be my browser issues. It does not handle the task to completion at all. My apologies to you.

I found this picture of the coin on the NGC website. It's interesting that NGC grades the SMS coins on an MS scale, while PCGS uses an SP (specimen) scale. The highest PCGS grade for the 1967 Kennedy SMS is SP-68, with a population of 17. The NGC registry sets include the SMS coins with the other mint state coins, while the PCGS registry includes that with the proofs.

MJD! Thank you so much for posting the photo of the coin in question.

That's my Kennedy!

I suppose I have to hunt for a new browser because my existing ones would not cooperate with the image upload. Or perhaps, and entirely likely, it was my out of whack photos causing the issues, lol!

The half is way more lovely in real life and NGC's picture of it does it little justice.

You are right about the use of scale difference used by the services! Thanks for the assist!

All depends on when they graded them. Find some older PCGS slabbed on and they will have MS grades. From time to time they change their minds on what they are going to call things for example the 1994 and 1997 jeffereson nickels that came out in the special sets with the commem dollars. At different times they have called them Matte Proof, SMS, MS, and SP. What was on the label depended on what they happened to be calling them at the moment. Things leke the 1894S dime or 1913 V nickel. They used to be MS, then they called them proofs, and I think the dimes they now call SP. But the coins were struck as business strikes.

Amazing coins and excellent acquisition! I have acquired a number of high grade proofs from the same era and think they are beautiful.

Thanks Hullamania!

This coin journey I'm on is quite the adventure. Returning to this hobby I so enjoyed as a kid is like being on a buried treasure hunt. Only now, I can actually afford some of the rare pieces that have caught my fancy, lol. My focus is on the 1950-1970 Proof sets and I'm relishing the search. BTW, I just got my hands on the only 1952 Lincoln Wheat Back Cent NGC PF 69 RD Cameo graded by either NGC or PCGS. It's a real beaut!

Take care,
Andrew
