I got this Washington State Quarter from a vending machine. What first caught my eye about it was that it was extremely shiny (mirror shine). I started to look at it a little closer. I noticed the copper layer is missing from the rim. I know it's not Silver because the mint mark is D and it weighs 5.7g. I also noticed the top of the mountain on the reverse side looked weird. So I am posting it here in hopes someone could enlighten me on what is going on with this quarter. I hope the pictures come out clear enough. I took pictures of the quarter next to another Washington quarter in hopes you can see how shiny it is. Any info or opinions would be amazing and thank you in advance.

Plated coin. Probably a three layer plating job done by a professional. It probably sticks to a magnet.

Plating companies do this to give away to customers to show how good their plating jobs are.

It's been plated outside of the U.S. Mint. PSD.

Thank you everyone... So what about the spot over the mountain? I just saw something that someone had a similar error and called it the UFO error.

It might be a die chip? I would have to confirm with a normal image.

Yes, it is a die chip.

Looks plated with either silver or platinum. To a collector it is considered damaged.
