Perhaps it is a new collecting fad. Whitman will just have pages with little body bags attached for a type collection. An inexpensive way to get a BB-Registry. Probably the only registry I could get

For what it's worth, I have noticed an upward trend in the FE cent circulated coin market. This particular coin, while certainly not "nice" could be considered to be interesting to a collector. Maybe the buyer is interested in finding out what caused the damage. Also, the coin could be a rarer variety and that would make the price go up even with the damage. Just a thought...
