Team, check out this raw 1825 VFish Caped Bust Half Dollar which I just purchased:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...150290709637
A couple of individuals (myself included) suspect it's an R-4+ coin, what are your thoughts?

To me it looks cleaned..? Maybe others thought that and the price stayed low. But the seller says maybe because of the lighting.

I don't know VAMs, but that does look very nice... I wonder if that's a scratch or a die break across the cap?

VAMs only apply to Morgan and Peace dollars. The two authors that wrote the seminal reference book on them are named Leroy Van Allen and George Mallis, hence the acronym VAM.

Bust halves have O numbers, a system devised Al Overton, author of the major Bust Half reference book.

Thanks for everyone taking a look so far. I've received conformation that it's in fact an O-104; R-4+. As to the cleaning, yes it's probably been cleaned at some point, no biggie when compared to all the others (US Bust Coins) which have been cleaned, dipped, tooled, retoned, conserved, and still slabbed, LOL.

This one will remain raw and in a 2x2 just like the majority of my collection.

I'll tell you what Ben, I'll give you a $100 for it right now, cleaned or not. Most Busties have been cleaned at some point. That one has great details at that price. Way to go!

Thank you Okie, I can't wait until it arrives. Hopefully Jen (wife) can get my camera working again (needs new battery) and can take some non-tilted straight on pictures.
