My coin mirrors the image of a rim error caused by a "die Collar Clash.

When a die clashes with the collar a dent or indentation is formed on the die. When a coin is then struck with this die a raised area will be left at the rim of the coin. Your coin exhibits a recessed area at the rim. I must agree with the others that your coin was a former encased cent.

Two things to consider why this is NOT a "die collar clash" (in addition to what Stoneman mentioned)-
1)There is only one die collar per strike so it could NOT affect both sides of a coin.
2)The area affected would NOT include the entire perimeter, but only a portion of it.

This is a heavily circulated and damaged coin. This coin has no errors. There is nothing special about this coin that gives it any premium. It is worth maybe 2 cents and 2 cents only.
