I was able to pick up a box of pennies during lunchtime this afternoon, and I'm not terribly dissatisfied with the result of 7 wheat pennies. I have a shipment of $100 in pennies coming this thursday, so I should have more updates sometime friday night. As always, thanks for the support!

I was able to pick up $75 in pennies and I was pretty happy with the results. 23 total wheats including 2 1910's wheats of which I had only found 9 previous to these boxes. As I said, break is coming up in a week and I should be able to go through $150 to $200 a week during that time. Thanks for the support!

Does anyone know if the comparison Scott is seeing between East & West Coast (a lot more wheaties in the East) is true for other denominations as well?

We are snowbirds, and I am hoping over the next year to be able to set aside enough money to go through a sizable amount of pennies in the Midwest. As some have mentioned in this thread, it is a good thing to look for error coins in the process. However, for me, it becomes too much like work to examine nearly every coin for every error. To wit, I have created a spreadsheet with all of the errors I am interested in looking for, having picked them from the Copper Coins database (they must have a Fine value of $5 or more for non-proofs to make the cut).....I am speaking here of 1959 & later. I keep all wheaties....period....and will create spreadsheet entries for those error coins at another time. The point is....I will not have enough time to go through the numbers that would force me to turn in the rejects to a Midwestern bank. I would take them all back to the West Coast and cash them in at my bank out there...thus avoiding the possibility of finding them in new rolls.

While out there, if it proves to be worth it, I will try building up my collection of nickels through dollars. I will also build spreadsheets to include error coins in those denominations that make the cut. I will try to find a branch not too close for returning those coins, because the amount tied up in those coins would be prohibitive for trying to hold onto them all to haul them back to the Midwest to cash them in.

Wow! What a lot of pennies. I was able to pick up $50 from my bank and I was very happy with the results. The main highlight was a 1905 Indian Head cent, just the 4th that I have found during this hunt. At this pace I hope to find 10-15 Indian Head cents by the time I reach 1 million pennies. As always, the totals are included below. Please keep checking in during the next few weeks as I should have new updates every other day. Thanks for the support!

MERRY COIN ROLL HUNTING CHRISTMAS! I was able to pick up $125 total in pennies during my first day on the east coast and although it took me almost 3 hours to go through all of them, I have finally finished. Very happy with 4 of the 5 boxes, as one of the customer wrapped boxes contained only 9 wheat cents. The other boxes averaged about 15-17 wheat cents and a few old Canadian cents as well. Very happy with the finds, lets hope that I can pick up some big finds in the next few days! Look for more updates coming either tommorow or the 27th.

So Scott -- having completed one fifth of your million penny goal; are you still excited about your goal? Have you found things that you would do different if you knew then what you know now? Clearly finding the wheats makes you happy, or I assume it does or why do this. But what is your secondary favorite finds?

Forgive the million questions I've been watching your journey and am just fascinated. I know myself well enough I would never have the patience for an undertaking like this!! Keep going!

ericalynn13, I'm always happy to answer questions! Something I would do different would be order pennies in advance or call banks rather than going to banks and just hoping that they would have boxes of pennies. this would have saved me lots of time driving and lots of gas! To answer your other question, I find enjoyment from this through any and all finds. Even if it is just a handful of Canadian cents and a few wheats, watching the collection grow has been something that has kept me going.
