My name is Franklin, and have been collecting since I was a child. I enjoy foreign coins as sometimes it is a challenge to find where they are from.

You will find many avid collectors of foreign here, including ancients, and that includes me.

We are good at identification, too, in my humble opinion, if you need that.

Welcome and I share your fascination with foreign coins.Usually they can be bought in lots for quite resonable prices. As you said finding the country of origin can be challenging.

I have to say I'm surprised that particular user name hadn't already been taken....

I find world coins fascinating as well. Aside from precious metal issues, many coin shops/dealers here in the U.S. seem to consider them a bother, so they can also provide very good bang for your buck.

Hi Franklin,

Welcome to CCF.
I too, am a world coin collector.
It's certainly a lot easier to identify coins
these days, with the aid of the internet.

Franklin: to the CCF !

Foreign coin identifiaction is much easier if you have a copy of each of the last four centuries of
Krause World Coin Catalog. Nearly 200,000 coin pictures, over four volumes.

But you don't have to go there.
You can identify on line:
NGC World Coin Values,
which is based on the Krause Catalogs. This is my 'go to' site, when I am too lazy to refer to my Krause Books.

I have about 2,500 World coins, covering the last 25 centuries, but you need a much larger numismatic library to cover this time span.
