A cherrypick and not mentioned in the auction, this 1904 Indian Head cent is Snow's S-10 variety, with clear and very strong repunching on the 0 and 4 in the date. The obverse has an issue that might details-grade it (if you look close enough) unless it's a strike-through, but overall I thought the color and surfaces were fairly nice for a raw coin. This is a bit of a scarcer variety but there are quite a few high grade examples out there in slabs.

Thoughts on a grade?

I'm at 64RB as well. Is that a carbon spot on the T in Liberty?

Nice one. I haven't looked into picking Indians. There's soo many varieties to choose from. I've got 72 I watch on eBay alone.

It has a little bit of gunk there but I am not going to do anything to risk altering the surfaces, and besides, the attempted removal might make it more noticeable with the color change. If it ends up being as pretty as it looks I might send it off to PCGS for TrueViews and a variety attribution on the holder. Both Mr. Snow & the Penny Lady will be seeing this coin on another site so I'll ask their opinions as well. NCS is also a possible option as I don't have any experience with PCGS conservation services, even though I hate to send copper and bronze coins to NGC because they have been exceptionally strict for the last year or more.

Agree with the majority at 64RB. Eye Appeal 7/10 for grade.

I think you are right. NGC would probably detail this one while PCGS would likely not.
