Sorry in advance if this topic is in the wrong forum.

I have about half of the proof Lincolns post '74, and am considering killing several of my holes at once with one big purchase I'm eyeing on E-Bay.

I try to avoid paying Red Book for most coins, but I don't know about proof pieces. I am inexperienced here.

I am just asking for feedback on actual trend prices versus Red Book prices. My suspicion is that Red Book is pretty accurate with proof Lincolns. Or do knowledgeable buyers pay substantially less?

For instance, if I could pick these up with shipping to Canada for $3 a piece (a bit less for the easy dates and a bit more for the harder dates), would you consider that a good deal? Or would you hold out for a better price?

Thanks for your input!

just remember that you should only pay 75% of Red Book value give or take a little bit. I think shatsi was selling some LMC proofs on here a couple of weeks ago

Just like UNC's not all proof coins are created equal !

while the RedBook gives approximate prices up to PR-65 prices for pieces that are above this level go up exponentially with each grade higher .

be very careful buying proof coins on ebay ! with out extremely good photo's proofs cannot be judged very well the mirrored fields hide lots of problems in photo's !

but to answer your question three dollars will be high on some and low on others , it really depends on the dates and the grades of the coins whether or not its a fair price .

These are the coins that I am trying to focus on right now and have bought everything my local coin shop has and using the net to fill the holes. Shanti did have a lot for sale but I think that I bought the majority of them. Someone suggested the following site: http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/cata...c279414.html and I will most likely go there to get the rest in a few months if I can not find them cheaper somewhere else. If you do not have any of the proof cents and want to get them in one buy then yes, this most likely would be a good deal. If you have other options then try that, but if you are in Canada then it may be difficult to find one or two and definitely not all of them.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions! They are all quite helpful.

That website you posted has some good deals, but the guy won't ship to Canada. Oh well...

I think the best route here would having another collector in the states picking some up at shows or a good shop.
Judging from stories I've heard, it's pretty tough to find nice proof (or BU) Lincolns off eBay--the average photo doesn't cut it.
It sounds like Metalman has a good source.

For six or seven dollars you can buy the whole proof set. You can also pick sets with exceptionally nice one cent coins. The remainder of the set can usually be traded or sold at a profit. It's more work this way but I think it's more fun and you'll end up with nicer coins.

With the more expensive sets you'll probably want to buy singles. This especially applies to dates with a big premium for the set being intact like the 1995.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Hey guys,

Sorry but I had already made a purchase before seeing your offer. So thank you, Metalman, but I'm happily awaiting some proofs in the mail! I'm glad others might be in on the combined shopping, though.

I wound up paying only $2.50 each, on average, including shipping. This even includes tough dates like 88S, 89S, 91S.

By the way, why are those so much more expensive in book value? Their mintages are only slightly lower than certain others. Something else must be going on.
