This one is probably a longshot, but it appears to be a counterstamped coin / token with the date of "1779" and stamping for the Ames Mfg. Co. of Chicopee, MA., along with many other marks. It is 28.7mm and weighs 7.0g. I understand that the Ames Manufacturing Company was a manufacturer of swords, tools and cutlery in Chicopee, Massachusetts, as well as an iron and bronze foundry and was in Chicopee by 1848. Anyone ever see a similar, or do you think this is a unique piece? Any thoughts regarding the coin or token it is counterstamped on? Any other thoughts would be great appreciated.
