Well, they did mint a total of 22 coins if you count the restrikes.

Nowhere on the listing of this coin dose it mention counterfeit ,fake or reproduction . But do you think someone would believe this coin is genuine for $30 ? You never know .

Tbh for the right price I wouldn't mind owning one as a gag coin.

If that coin is only $29.99 then I'm buying a bunch of MS64.

Hardly a classic coin, but why is there not a counterfeit page here, or is there?

15. If I remember correctly 8 originals, 7 restrikes one of which still has a plain edge and is struck over an 1857 Bern shooting thalar.

Conder101, I was going by the PCGS CoinFacts listings. They say 8-Class I, 7-Class II and 7-Class III coins were minted, but I think that those numbers are just guesses. They'll never know just how many were really struck, but it really doesn't have anything to do with this guy's coin. We know that it's a fake.

I believe that the class II coins were later given lettered edge turning them into the class III's. When the first restikes began appearing they were all plain edged and the mint worked to recover them. The class II's appeared later and they had lettered edges that had been applied AFTER the coins were struck. And there was a fairly clear connection between the mint and the dealer who marketed the class III's. I believe the Mint recovered the Class II's, lettered the edges and then Linderman quietly passed them through backchannels to Idler/Haseltine who then sold them.
