Hi CCF,

What do you do? Or, what do you recommend? We're leaving town for a week or so, as we do occasionally. Would you keep the irreplaceable part of your collection in a well hidden home safe or cart it to the safe deposit box?

Asking for a friend. Thanks!

Tell your friend to use his common sense for his specific situation and location.

If it fits, use a safe deposit box.

Yeah, it appears someone has hacked into Carl's account....

As to the OP question - Your friend needs to decide on his/ her own. We do not have enough details to answer this..

A safe deposit box is a good way to go. Drawback is that every time you want to look at your coins you have to go to the bank.

I store all my good coins in multiple safe deposit boxes in multiple banks. Before the coins go into the boxes, I take pictures (in fact, this is what got me started into coin photography long ago).

Safe deposit box is your best bet if you are leaving and don't need access to the coins.

Other methods would be:
1. If you have a back yard, dig a large hole, put all coins in water proof boxes and bury them.
2. Find a neighbor that doesn't look like someone about to leave town and ask them to hold everything for you.
3. Place on front porch and cover with all kinds of Christmas decorations.
4. Give to Salvation Army and forget about all of them.
5. Leave all of them right out in the open on a table. No crooks would think of them there.
